A rare opportunity for a hands-on Health and Safety Manager has arisen, the chance to ‘have a REAL influence in decision making’ in a role that was only created in the business two years ago, a privately owned business that is based in Manchester specialising in low rise housing, apartments and care homes for registered providers. This role will offer you employment in a business who listen to your feedback and implement your HSE ideas - if you like being the main point of contact from advising on site to pushing decisions through with the Managing Directors then this one is going to suit you down to the ground.
I originally filled this role in February 2021 and the departing Health and Safety Manager (who’s moved to a larger PLC) said ‘To work in this business, you’ll need to wear 3 or 4 hats, it’s very hands-on and very busy - the up-side to that is you have a lot of influence, a real influence in the decision making you don’t have at larger companies. That won’t suit someone who’s worked for a big PLC and who’s used to more structure but it will suit someone who’s worked in a smaller company and knows they have to get stuck in’.
He said: ‘Whoever comes in can definitely put a stamp on it, it’s a good company to work for and I had the best two working years of my life there, I’m gutted to leave but it was a professional decision’.
There you have it – some choice words from the gent you’ll be replacing. Originally, I’d said that for an ambitious Health and Safety professional, this one is for you, and I still stand by that – it’s a great opportunity that will allow you to create an efficient structure in the business, championing Health and Safety throughout including preparing construction phase plans, RAMS, PQQ reviews etc.
The business places great emphasis on learning on the job although coming in at this level, they'd expect you to have NEBOSH, strong knowledge of scaffold, CISRS card, First Aid, Temporary Works and be a member of some sort of Health and Safety Association (IOHS). Knowledge and experience of ISO 14001, OSHAS and ISO 45001 is preferred.

Summary:
Health and Safety Manager required for a mid-size privately owned new build contractor.
Responsible for up to 15 sites in and around the Greater Manchester area stretching from Bolton to Blackburn to Glossop to Stockport.
You’ll continue the good work of what was 'a blank canvas' for you to bring all Health and Safety matters 'in-house'
Interviews and start dates are immediate for the right candidate – salary up to £55,000 plus car allowance which is negotiable.
